The firefighters of Colorado are always prepared for any action when they are needed. They mostly handle fires, but they will not say no when their services are needed for various forms of rescue to help someone in need.

Qualities of firefighters

The firefighters are built with muscle and agility. They have a keen perception. And they know how to act fast. They are skilled and work well in teams. They are humble and put the safety of others at the forefront of what they do. That is why the firefighters of Colorado are well trusted in the work that they do.

Enjoy the story

That is why you will enjoy the story about firefighters that rescue litter of “puppies” foxes. It is an intriguing story that will find a soft spot in your heart and you will be just as amazed as the firefighters in this heartwarming and thrilling rescue story to realize the puppies are not puppies, but are baby foxes.

No clue

When the firefighters of Colorado in unison answered the call for help to rescue some small puppies that had somehow mysteriously ended up stuck in a storm drain, the firefighters really had no clue about what they were really getting ready to encounter in full detail. On a recent Thursday, a fireman who was from the fire department of Colorado Springs was seen tenderly and carefully rescuing some small animals. They looked like tiny puppies.

They were black in color. The fireman was rescuing them from a storm drain. There were eight pups that had been in need of rescuing, as they were all found together in the storm drain and unable to get out by themselves, with no mother or father of the pups nearby in sight.

Assumption

The officials who had arrived at the scene of the puppies that needed to be rescued made the assumption that the pups were black Labradors and had been newly born. That is why the officials thought that a crime had been committed by the fact of someone having dumped the unwanted puppies down into the storm drain, according to the statement made by Brian Vaughn, the Fire Captain.

The Fire Captain indicated that the process of the rescue had taken a period of twenty minutes. Then the litter of pups was turned over to the Humane Society, which is noted as being located in Pikes Peak Region.

The discovery

But when the puppies were taken to the shelter, things changed concerning the identity of the supposed newborn black Labrador puppies that were undeniably adorable with their tiny faces looking so sweet and innocent. One of the vets that served at the shelter indicated that the puppies were not Labradors and never would be. They were not even dogs of any kind. The vet rather identified them as baby red foxes.

In shock

The firefighters were in shock to hear that these pups were baby red foxes, because they had no red on them. But when baby foxes are born, they are never red immediately. They always are born either with dark black fur or dark brown fur that will eventually change over time as the baby foxes mature.

It is common to see many foxes in the region of the nearby foothills of the Rocky Mountains. But most people would likely not be used to seeing baby foxes up close, which is why these baby foxes had been mistaken as newborn black Labrador puppies. The truth is, they do resemble them quite closely, though they are not even dogs!

Getting care

The sweet baby foxes who had the good fortune to be rescued by the kind and adept firefighters of Colorado are receiving good care at the Humane Society at this present time. However, it is not yet quite clear regarding their future once they have completed their rehabilitation.

But it is certain that the firefighters and those who are caring for them in some way wish them much success and safety with a long life of happiness and good health. It has been a touching story to realize that these baby foxes have been rescued and will now have a chance for a great and adventurous life.

While dogs may be man’s best friend, did you know they are a woman’s best sleeping companion? Although I have always personally believed Fido belongs on your bed, science says I’m right! A study that examined both the quality and routine of women’s sleep in regards to sharing the bed with a dog shows just that.

This study conducted by Kaylee Stutz, Christy Hoffman, and Terrie Vasilopoulos through Canisius College suggest that ladies’ sleeping habits can greatly benefit from letting a dog sleep in bed with them. What’s more, is the research goes on to detail how your pup outranks other bedtime contenders.

Read below to find out the reasons why you
should let the dog sleep in the bed.

Rest Easier For Longer With A Dog At The Bedside

Move over hubby, Fido sleeps here now! If you have a dog and a significant other, it’s probably crossed your mind that you might love one more than the other. I mean, first and foremost one talks back and the other one loves belly rubs for hours (we’re talking about the pup here, girl). Well, here’s another reason to like your canine more than your husband. According to Hoffman et. al, women woke up less during the night with a hound at their side compared to a human. It’s that in comparison to a human, dogs were found to cause less sleep disturbance among other positive findings, says the study. You might want to consider reaching for your little furball before you reach for those sleeping pills, although both can be very addictive.

Pups Make Women Feel Safer When They Snooze

When your pup barks at the door for literally no reason it might be highly annoying; however, it’s only because Fido is trying to keep you safe and secure! Naturally, it makes sense that Hoffman and the company found evidence to support this. Within the responses of the 962 women they surveyed, a reason why dogs led women to sleep easier was that they had the feeling they were more secure, which made them more comfortable versus sans pup. Even without science backing this up, it’s obvious your dog would flex their guard dog capabilities if an intruder dared enter the bedroom.

Dogs Sit And Stay In Bed While Their Human Sleeps

Another key point of the research showed that the sleeping pattern of dogs and humans are similar in the sense that generally both stay in bed once its bedtime. An interview with Hoffman posted on Psychology Today dives deeper into the study’s analysis why women seem to sleep easier next to a dog. She and her colleagues compared both feline and canine sleeping patterns against those of their human owners. What they found is that dogs tend to stay in bed over the course of the night, while cats do not.

Hoffman goes onto say that it might also be the fact that dogs need a schedule, just like most women do. What I mean, is that when your dog needs to go to the bathroom it’s their human that gives them the ability to do so, or face the nasty consequences. The doctor further details that people who have regular schedules where they wake up (to walk the dog) usually have regular sleeping patterns that coincide with it.

So who would win? Dogs, cats, or humans?

One of the most interesting points about the research was that dogs beat both humans and cats in the sleepy time department! Kitties who shared the bed with their owner were said to provide less feelings of comfort and security in comparison to dogs. The same thing was found with just a human in the bed too!

To me this makes total sense because who can match the snuggling abilities of a dog? Unless your bedside babe is as soft and furry as your dog then your pup will remain champion in this department.

Whoever said dog was man’s best friend clearly never read this study! Dog proves women’s best sleeping aid and friend. So the next time your spouse argues that your sweet, fur-child should not get in bed with you, you can scientifically bark back.

Various studies were done to prove to try and show whether dogs sense bad people. Some of these studies are as follows;

•Researches pointed at a container that had food and made the dog run to it. The dog did as expected and ran towards it. They later looked at an empty box and made the dog ran towards it. The dog ran and found there was no food in the box; the researchers did the same experiment again. This time around, it didn’t run to the container since it knew it was empty. The investigation shows that the dog has trust issues and can detect the truth in many instances.

•Research that dogs know the relationship of individuals with the owner. The experiment usually carried out with dog owners. People tried to give the dogs a treat. How it began

The famous Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado and his wife Lelia Deluiz Wanick Salgado has proven that we can literally make a huge difference for our environment. With the help of other people, the couple has planted a total of 2.7 million trees over the span of twenty years or two decades. Through this, they have completely restored the entire forest that was previously wiped out by a tragic deforestation.

Salgado is a world-famous photographer. He has appeared in a lot of press publications and has traveled in a lot of countries to take pictures. Most of his pictures were published in books, journals, etc.

This all began in 1994 when the renowned Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado took over a family land in the Minas Gerais area after he went through a traumatizing assignment reporting on the genocide found in Rwanda. Already feeling devastated about his assignment, he felt much horrible upon finding out that the trees were all cut down and wildfire has swept the forests of his homeland. He remembered this memory of when he was a child, so Salgado and his wife came up with an idea to replant the forest trees.

“The land was sick as I was and everything was destroyed.” – Sebastiao Salgado

Before New Forest
Before Picture

In hopes to restore the forest, Salgado’s family has recruited different partners, raised some funds, and finally in April 1998, they founded Instituto Terra–who’s goal is to transform the environment and return it back to its normal condition.

From the first day of their journey to rebuild the forest, the Instituto Terra has committed to restoring 1,502 acres of land located in Bulcao Farm in Aimores, Minas Gerais, which was renamed as the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (PNHR). The Salgados are no longer the owner of the property since it was now owned by a federally recognized authority that aims to preserve the forest as well as the animals that resides there.

In the month of December in 1999, came forth their first ever mass planting. Then after that, this mass planting has become an annual event with the help and support of various associates. During those times, there were over 290 species of trees and plants that were planted. As a result, the forest was slowly restored back as well as the shrub species living thereby.

The Restoration

The two decades of restoration has brought forth:

An aid to prevent soil erosion. Eight natural springs hosted by the forest has come back. and are flowing on the rate of 20 liters (5.3 gallons) every minute. They still flow even in times of drought. The return of over 172 species of bird, 6 of these species are already in danger of extinction. The return of over 33 species of mammals, 2 of these species are already in danger of extinction. The restoration of 2293 species of plants15 reptiles and 15 amphibian species has also returned

The Instituto Terra

A non-profit organization, with no religious or political affiliations that aims to restore the subtropical rain forest. This project was spearheaded by Sebastiao Salgado and his wife Lelia Deluiz Wanick Salgado. Their dream to restore and rebuild the damaged forest of Brazil gave birth to the organization “Instituto Terra.”

If you’ll visit their website at www.institutoterra.org, you will see the current and completed projects, their ecosystem restoration, their production of seedlings, and many more. On their website you can also participate by donating through your Paypal account. All proceedings and donations will be for the enhancement of the forests and protection of the species. Also, if you’ll visit their website, you can see an icon there which says “e-Store” and if you’ll click that, you will be directed to their online store where you can buy shirts, art crafts, stuff toys and etc.

Unknowingly, we lose thousands and thousands of hectares of land forest each year due to intense wildfires and illegal cutting of trees. But thankfully, there are still some modern heroes out there who are willing to do their best to restore what has been destroyed. The Salgados’ effort to restore the Brazilian forest through Instituto Terra, has become an eye-opener and has awakened environmental awareness to a lot of people. Through this, they have led by example to show the need to conserve and restore our forests.
