Dog Behavior And The Meanings.
What Did My Dog Just Do?

Whether you are a new dog owner or you’ve had dogs since you were a kid, thee are some strange dog behaviors that may need decryption. Our four-legged buddies are usually well behaved, but there are times when they act out in such weird ways that you do not know what to make of it. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who needs an explanation for some of the different things that dogs do. The following is a list of different dog behavior and the meanings of these behaviors.

My Dog Went Zoom

My dog just went zooming around the house or yard for no apparent reason. Many pet owners are surprised by the sudden burst of energy that their dog exhibit. Experts believe that this is a result of happiness. Your dog may have gotten excited to see you or was inspired to run around because he thinks you’ll play with him or he just felt refreshed by his bath.

My Dog Ate Grass

So here we were thinking that dogs were carnivores and he goes and eats some grass. We think it’s weird but for them it’s instinctive and something that has been passed down since time immemorial. Dogs are not carnivores and so were their ancestors. In order to survive, early ancestors of dogs had to scavenge and root for food. Some even ate plants as an aid for digestion and as medicine.

My Dog sniffs Other Dog’s Butts

We’ve seen our dogs sniff each other’s rear ends and we thought “Oh, that dog’s poop must smell bad”. Well, we were wrong. Scientific studies have shown that dogs sniff each other’s butts (and also people’s butts, too!) so they can get an understanding of what kind of dog or person you are. It’s sort of like the saying “You are what you eat”.

My Dog Smells Foul

There are times when our dogs tug on the leash, dive into the grass or undergrowth and come out smelling like a year’s worth of dead rodents. This really disgusting and strange behavior is another instinctive behavior passed down from their ancestors. It is the art of masking their hunter smell with an even more overpowering one so that their prey will not discover them on the hunt.

My Dog Just Gave Me a Wink

Have you ever seen your dog give you a wink? Although this is a fairly common behavior among dogs and cats, some pet owners find it strange and wish to decipher the meaning behind it. Our pets usually do this because there is something in their eye. Sometimes when the blinking does not help, they use their paw to “rub” their eye.

My Dog Just Ate Poop

This really disgusting behavior is fairly common among puppies and undernourished dogs. They do this because they instinctively know that they lack some vitamin or mineral which they can smell in the poop. Puppies usually eat their siblings’ or their poop while adult dogs eat other animals poop when they feel out of sorts and want to gain some nutrition.

My Dog Keeps On Shaking His Head

If you notice your dog shaking his head frequently give him a cursory check. Dogs usually shake their heads because they feel that there is something stuck in their ears or their ears feel out of sorts. This can also be a sign of an ear infection or a tick or flea infestation.

My Dog is Sleepwalking

Dogs sometimes exhibit signs of dreaming by whining, moving his feet when asleep, and sometimes barking or growling. More extreme cases show dogs actually standing up or running around and hitting a wall or furniture. While we can never be sure if they really do dream or if the behavior is a manifestation of muscle memory and pent up energy,

My Dog Always Leans On Me

Some dog owners notice their dogs leaning on them on more than one occasion. This very endearing behavior is actually a sign of their trust and affection for you. Experts explain that leaning is also his way of getting comfort from you during stressful or confusing times. At times, it could also be the other way around. Your dog could be trying to comfort you and assure you that he is there when you need him.

My Dog Chews On Wood

This behavior is common for puppies who are in the process of getting their permanent teeth. When your adult dog does this, it could be a sign of anxiety or distress. Some dogs chew on furniture or plants when they feel anxious if their humans are not at home. Separation anxiety is real for animals as well as people so you should find a way to correct this behavior or you will run our of furniture and home.

While dogs may be man’s best friend, did you know they are a woman’s best sleeping companion? Although I have always personally believed Fido belongs on your bed, science says I’m right! A study that examined both the quality and routine of women’s sleep in regards to sharing the bed with a dog shows just that.

This study conducted by Kaylee Stutz, Christy Hoffman, and Terrie Vasilopoulos through Canisius College suggest that ladies’ sleeping habits can greatly benefit from letting a dog sleep in bed with them. What’s more, is the research goes on to detail how your pup outranks other bedtime contenders.

Read below to find out the reasons why you
should let the dog sleep in the bed.

Rest Easier For Longer With A Dog At The Bedside

Move over hubby, Fido sleeps here now! If you have a dog and a significant other, it’s probably crossed your mind that you might love one more than the other. I mean, first and foremost one talks back and the other one loves belly rubs for hours (we’re talking about the pup here, girl). Well, here’s another reason to like your canine more than your husband. According to Hoffman et. al, women woke up less during the night with a hound at their side compared to a human. It’s that in comparison to a human, dogs were found to cause less sleep disturbance among other positive findings, says the study. You might want to consider reaching for your little furball before you reach for those sleeping pills, although both can be very addictive.

Pups Make Women Feel Safer When They Snooze

When your pup barks at the door for literally no reason it might be highly annoying; however, it’s only because Fido is trying to keep you safe and secure! Naturally, it makes sense that Hoffman and the company found evidence to support this. Within the responses of the 962 women they surveyed, a reason why dogs led women to sleep easier was that they had the feeling they were more secure, which made them more comfortable versus sans pup. Even without science backing this up, it’s obvious your dog would flex their guard dog capabilities if an intruder dared enter the bedroom.

Dogs Sit And Stay In Bed While Their Human Sleeps

Another key point of the research showed that the sleeping pattern of dogs and humans are similar in the sense that generally both stay in bed once its bedtime. An interview with Hoffman posted on Psychology Today dives deeper into the study’s analysis why women seem to sleep easier next to a dog. She and her colleagues compared both feline and canine sleeping patterns against those of their human owners. What they found is that dogs tend to stay in bed over the course of the night, while cats do not.

Hoffman goes onto say that it might also be the fact that dogs need a schedule, just like most women do. What I mean, is that when your dog needs to go to the bathroom it’s their human that gives them the ability to do so, or face the nasty consequences. The doctor further details that people who have regular schedules where they wake up (to walk the dog) usually have regular sleeping patterns that coincide with it.

So who would win? Dogs, cats, or humans?

One of the most interesting points about the research was that dogs beat both humans and cats in the sleepy time department! Kitties who shared the bed with their owner were said to provide less feelings of comfort and security in comparison to dogs. The same thing was found with just a human in the bed too!

To me this makes total sense because who can match the snuggling abilities of a dog? Unless your bedside babe is as soft and furry as your dog then your pup will remain champion in this department.

Whoever said dog was man’s best friend clearly never read this study! Dog proves women’s best sleeping aid and friend. So the next time your spouse argues that your sweet, fur-child should not get in bed with you, you can scientifically bark back.

According to studies, ginger can be used as an alternative treatment for some types of cancer. It’s all thanks to the large amount of 6-gingerol found in fresh ginger.

A study has shown that taking 2 grams of ginger every day could greatly reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines in the colon, although a different research involving participants at a high risk of colon cancer didn’t corroborate such a result.

Nevertheless, there’s some evidence that ginger may be good for treating ovarian cancer, breast cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Furthermore, it has been evidenced that ginger can directly support brain function. At least 60 middle-aged women who took ginger extract had shown improvement in memory performance and reaction time. More studies also found that the spice can help prevent age-associated decline in brain function.

For a long time now, probiotics have been known to aid several health benefits. However, not all probiotics work the same, and you need to understand this to know how to consume them to benefit appropriately. Probiotics are live micro-organisms that add good bacteria to the body when consumed appropriately. Probiotics are mostly found in fermented foods and drinks even though some people add them to the body in the form of supplements. These healthy bacteria are known to have many health benefits, including metabolism, mood-boosting, and improved immunity. If you are in search of a simple and straight answer for how do probiotics work, this article outlines various health benefits you’ll get from consuming probiotics.

Improved Digestion

Heart Health

Probiotics are important for a healthy heart as it reduces bad cholesterol from the body and lowers blood pressure. Probiotics break down bile and prevent it from reabsorbing in the gut. Vitamin D is a vital nutrient that works well to lower blood pressure.

Delay Aging Symptoms

For those who do not want to age just yet, probiotics can be an essential choice. There is various evidence that proves the effect of probiotics in reducing wrinkles. These nutrients have mostly been used by Koreans to treat skin ailments and slow down the aging process. The microbiome found in this probiotic helps with skin hydration, strengthen skin surface, improve signs of dryness, and restore the pH balance on the surface of the skin. All these are essential factors that help with anti-aging effects on the skin.

Probiotics have several health effects if taken appropriately. However, it is important to note that not all of them work the same. For instance, not all forms of probiotics will aid fat burning, nor will the fat-burning probiotics improve the immune system. It’s also important to understand that probiotics can be harmful to the body, so you must understand how to take them appropriately to maximize the benefits.
